Del inglés nerd [/nerd/], adjetivo. Tradicionalmente, un nerd es una persona muy inteligente, fascinada por el conocimiento, especialmente el cientifico, pero solitaria y socialmente torpe. El Nerd es un personaje tipo muy abusado en la ficción. El término nerd se empezó a usar en los setenta, inspirado por el filósofo Timothy Charles Paul, que usó la palabra para describir un estereotipo de persona inteligente con malas habilidades sociales, que suele ser el objeto de burlas. En los años 1990, el término nerd desarrolló connotaciones positivas dentro de las esferas sociales conectadas con los ordenadores e Internet, para denotar a una persona técnica experta (y orgullosa de ello). Esta condición teóricamente te podía catapultar al éxito financiero en estos campos, con Bill Gates a la cabeza, que es descrito a menudo como nerd notablemente rico.
